Welcome to Santa Teresa! The Quicksilver Innovation Program got off to a great start with three enthusiastic sections of Freshmen from all different backgrounds. To celebrate the end of the first week and (and the first advisory period), the QuIP teachers brought all classes together in the multipurpose room on Friday for fun, games, and a schoolwide lesson.
Mrs. Jenkins led the introduction to the group with some reflections on the week and a little bit of Q&A. QuIP students mentioned that they were glad that the program was integrated into the rest of Santa Teresa and not isolated from the larger school. They also discussed the advantages of having a support system within the group since they all share the same core teachers.
The QuIP teachers also reviewed the plan for next week's Spirit Week, encouraging everyone to participate and offering ideas for costumes.
After a quick game of 2 Truths and a Lie, the group watched the first broadcast of the year and went through the Advisory/Tutorial Schoolwide Lesson. A group of ASB students then addressed them to explain some of the many different ways that students can get involved at Santa Teresa. The ASB students then led a game of Rock Paper Scissors Worm that ended in an epic battle between Brendan and Michael .

As the period came to an end, Mrs. Jenkins announced that ASB had put together a hot dog barbecue to welcome the QuIP students, kicking off lunch with a final celebration.
Next week, the QuIP classes will start getting more into the academics of each subject discipline. The teachers are meeting regularly to work on curriculum integration and to plan for larger projects and events that will occur later in the year. Right now, the focus is on getting everyone oriented to the program, the school, and each other. With a strong community as a base, we will be able to achieve great heights this year!
